Garage Organization with Storage Systems and Overhead Storage

So, you’ve read the page on decluttering your garage, and you’re ready find out how to organize all the stuff that’s left. As far as possible, you want to get things off the floor and into cabinets, onto the walls or even onto the ceiling.

Garage Storage Systems

A number of companies make cabinet lines specifically intended for the garage. Used to be that “utility” cabinets were cheap and ugly, but the new lines are often very attractive (in a “tough guy” kind of way) with prices to match. Top of the line are the cabinets with doors finished to look like textured steel, such as Gladiator, but there are also hammered paint finishes and all-plastic lines.

Garage Shelves

Shelving systems for the garage need to carry heavy weights without sagging or breaking, allow height adjustment to accommodate odd-sized items, have a tough surface which resists chemicals and stains and cleans easily, and preferably look good as well! You can get them to match the storage systems shown above, or as standalone shelf units or shelf systems. Of course, you can also build your own using heavy-duty bracket systems.

Overhead Garage Storage (Garage Ceiling Storage)

Many garages are built with higher ceilings than a normal room. Even if your garage isn’t all that tall, if you don’t have a tall vehicle you can still use ceiling space for storage. Some of these systems are fixed in place and need a ladder for access, others swing down or are lowered using a pulley system. Critical for all of them is strong, secure fixing. You don’t want the out of season sports gear landing on your head or the hood of the car!

Finally, and obviously, none of these storage products will work to keep your garage clear and uncluttered unless you – and your family – do two things:

2. Limit the amount of new stuff coming in
